More on Christmas
I want to tell you what Christmas means to me. Christmas is the day that is traditionally celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus was born about 2000 years ago in Israel. He lived a perfect life - a life that was up to God's standards. The reason he was able to do this was because he WAS God. He was God who was born in the form of man. Because he was man, he went through everything that we go through daily: everything from stress, hunger, and thirst to death of family and friends, friends hurting and disappointing him, and physical pain. He taught people about God - what he was like, what he was doing, what he expected from them. Some people became afraid of the influence he was gaining with the common people. Eventually they decided get rid of him so they tortured and killed him. Jesus knew all along that this was going to happen, but he allowed it to happen anyway. Then after he had been dead for three days, he came back to life! He died and came back to life so that ...
- ...he could show how he loves us.
- ...we could be forgiven of the things we have done to offend God.
- ...we could be free from fear of death.
- ...we could be free from guilt.
- ...we could live forever with God.
